Nobody likes a litterbug

Walking to The Limes After School Program every day, I always notice an abundance of trash in the drains and all over the field. And to be honest, I wondered if they kids ever noticed as well or if maybe it never bothered them. So today in class we talked about the environment, littering, and recycling. I thought when it came time for action, I would have to bribe them to pick up garbage, but they were so enthusiastic that I ran out of rubber gloves within seconds. The kids raced around the neighborhood to see who could fill up the most garbage bags first and had collected 15 bags within 15 minutes! It warmed my heart, and not to mention, set a great example for all the neighbors watching. :)

Sandy Island

The name speaks for itself. There's no better way to spend the day than with with friends on a secluded island with crystal-clear waters, white sands to roam, and reefs to snorkel. And only a short (yet thrilling) boat ride away from Grenada. We had a great cookout of oildown, watched our local friends catch fish with a harpoon gun, and found an abandoned shipwreck to play
"Titanic" on. Good fun in the sun!

Kids say the darndest things

Today at GBSS volleyball practice, one of the boys brought his 5-year old sister along. I noticed she had a large scar on her knee and asked her what happened. She explained to me how she scraped it on the fridge and when it started bleeding down her leg, she had to "lick up all the blood to keep it in my body." :)

Some days here are frustrating beyond belief, but then there are days like today. I swear this is why God made children funny.

Fish Friday & Turtle Watching

It was just your average Friday and we went up to Gouyave for some fish, BBQ, and good company.

The only exception being that it was turtle season. Every year around this time, leatherback turtles come to Levera Beach (a pretty secluded beach on the northern tip of the island, where the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet) to lay their eggs. It was an incredible sight under the light of the full moon, being able to walk right up to these huge creatures and kneel down beside them while they dig a hole to lay over 100 eggs. Nothing like the zoo. :)
